Performance

My namesake, Saint Lucy’s feast day takes place on 13 December and is often associated with the return of the light in the darkest part of the year. In Scandinavia, celebrants wear crowns of candles, similar to the one reportedly worn by the saint when delivering aid to persecuted Christians hiding in the Roman catacombs.

In this experimental performance, staged at Art House, Wakefield in December 2024, my mouth becomes the crown while I lie in a pool of sand, like a votive and let the candle burn out.

Performed December 2024 at the Art House, Wakefield.
